The Commonwealth Trades Congress is the peak federation of trade unions in the Commonwealth, and a recognised body of the Parliament of Milk and Honey. It represents organised labour in the country and is independent of the parliament and Government, although it nominates candidates for the parliament’s professional seats with the Commonwealth Industrial Congress.

Because wages are not paid in the commons, trade unions in the Commonwealth mostly negotiate hours and conditions of work instead of pay. The Congress prepares recommended standards for its member unions, and is consulted by the Bureau of Labour on the labour standards of the country.

Most unions in the country belong to the Congress through one of its seven member federations. It meets each year at Trades Congress House in Kairi, beside the headquarters of the Bureau of Labour. The parliament also recognises the Atlantic National Labour Federation, which represents unions in the Caribbean and Atlantic republics.
