The Bureau of Lands and Survey is responsible for the cadastre of the Commonwealth, the register of land titles and the national maps. It is part of the Ministry of Landscape, and was established in 1952 to resurvey the republics after the war.
Since property in the Commonwealth is a balance of claims between the Land, the Public and the Steward, the bureau’s record is what the courts of the sovereign work from when those claims are tested. Real estate is negotiated and leased by the municipalities, and each title they grant, whether regular, firm or immediate, is reported to the bureau’s republic office and entered in the Titles Register.
In many smaller republics the survey office is one of the only federal offices on the island, together with the weather station of the Bureau of Meteorology. Crown Land, where the claim of the Land is complete, is surveyed like any other land but entered without a title, and most of the island of Meteor is Crown Land. Reservations made by the Bureau of Reserves and Sanctuaries are also entered in the cadastre.
