The Bureau of Agriculture is responsible for farming and forestry in the Commonwealth, and for the health of its crops and farm animals. It is part of the Ministry of Landscape, and was established in 1957 with its headquarters on Cama.
Most of the country’s sugar is grown by Caribbea Cane, which manages over 212,000 hectares of cane farmland across the Verde and Lucaya regions, and whose refineries make most of the country’s meat. Sea Island cotton is grown on the central plains of Kairi, and a lot of other farming is done by municipal farms and by the school farms of the Bureau of Schools.
Since many republics are small, low or volcanic, the bureau’s research is done with the LSRE, at stations such as Pinefield in Yabaque, which develops salt-tolerant crops for low limestone islands, and the Caribbean Botanical Research Station on Oualie. Plants and animals coming into the country are inspected by the Frontier Quarantine Service of the Bureau of the Frontier, and the bureau is responsible for pests and diseases once they are inside it.
