The Bureau of Economic Forecasting is a bureau of the Ministry of Accounts. It calculates days of stock for the goods of the commons and publishes quarterly demand figures, which are the basis of production targets in the Commonwealth.
Because goods are not priced in the commons, demand is measured instead in days of stock. Stock is counted by the shop staff of the Bureau of Distribution and reported to the bureau, which calculates the figure for each product and region. Stock lasting under two days is generally regarded as underproduction, and stock lasting over two weeks as overproduction. Production targets are then adjusted every quarter by the Bureau of Production.
The bureau was established in 1977, and its seasonal forecasts have been published every quarter since. Its staff are officers of the Economic and Statistical Service.
