The Commonwealth Foreign School is a post-tertiary establishment associated with the Bureau of State that trains the diplomats of the Commonwealth. Its graduates join the diplomatic branch of the State Service, commonly called the Commonwealth Foreign Service. The school is in Fennel, the capital of Mira, and shares its grounds and its School of Languages with the Commonwealth Consular School.
It was established in 1951, two years after the State Service, and has taken about 120 entrants a year since the 1990s. Most of its students come from the universities, and some from other branches of the civil service. They spend their first year at Fennel and their second at an embassy abroad.
Since the commons is not well understood abroad, a lot of the course is given over to explaining it, and in particular why the Commonwealth trades in money abroad while its people use none at home. Diplomats are often paid a stipend in their host countries as well, and are taught how to manage it. The school is led by a Principal from the State Service.
