The Bureau of Associate Education is a bureau of the Parliament of Education. It keeps the classes taken by adults outside their working hours, which in the Commonwealth are known as associate education. It was established in 1957 and is headquartered at Associate Education House in Barbados.
Education in the Commonwealth is life-long, diverse, compulsory in childhood and free, and associate classes are free for all Commonwealth people, permanent residents and foreign workers. An adult is enrolled at a school or university as an associate of it, and takes the same units as its ordinary students in the evening or at the weekend. On the smaller islands the classes are taught by radio through the School Broadcasting Service of the Bureau of Post and Telecommunications.
