The Bureau of Works and Machinery holds the machines, mines and wells that production in the Commonwealth depends on, and leases them to the firms that use them. Mining and drilling are licensed separately, by the Bureau of Mines and the Bureau of Hydrocarbons. It is part of the Ministry of Industry, and was established in 1961.
Plant that a firm no longer needs, or that comes back when a firm fails, is returned to the bureau. It is exchanged between the industrial bureaus through the Commonwealth Industrial Coordination Council (commonly Chick), which was formerly part of the Bureau of Production. Plant that cannot be used again goes to the salvage yards of the Bureau of Supply with the scrap of other factories. The bureau’s headquarters are at Commonwealth Enterprise House in Oslola.
