The National Library is the library of record of the Commonwealth, run directly by the Ministry of Culture as an establishment. Copies of every publication in the country must be deposited with the Library, which also administers the Federal Library network shared by the libraries of schools, universities and municipalities. The Library is headquartered in Mira, in the Atlantic Region.
Since most public libraries are run by the 120 education districts of the Bureau of Public Education, the Library’s role in them is mostly advisory, and concerns lending between collections. The national bibliography is also published by the Library each year.
The Library is the custodian of the Federal Collections, and holds copies of them at the Commonwealth National Vault on Kala, which is designed to survive a total nuclear war. The Library is staffed by officers of the Central Records Service.
