The Post and Telecommunications Service is the statutory service of postmasters and telecommunications officers of the Bureau of Post and Telecommunications. It was constituted in 1969 under the Interinsular Communications commission, and its cadre authority is the Ministry of the Interior.

On many small islands the postmaster is the only resident federal officer. The post office usually keeps the telephone exchange and the radio station, receives forms on behalf of other bureaus and often serves as the civil registry and polling station as well. Postmasters of the service are rotated between islands every few years.
