The Bureau of Families is a bureau of the Parliament of Bread and Roses that supports families, children, the elderly and caregivers across in the Commonwealth. In the commons, it does not distribute payments and so support is arranged through services. To these ends, it administers childcare and retirement facilities, disability support services and formal exemptions from Regular Service for caregivers. Under Commonwealth law, care for children under twelve and severely disabled adults is recognised as a formal occupation.
Retirement and old age support are major areas of concern, since most people in the country live in small homes that cannot accommodate elderly parents and grandparents. Recent policy in coordination with the Parliament of Health and Bureau of Housing has focused on maintaining independence for retirees through the reservation of ground-floor units in new residences, and supporting the employment of retirees in local work. The bureau administers both residential care facilities and home support services across the republics.
