The Bureau of Water (commonly the Hydroburo) is responsible for drinking water, sewerage and desalination in the Commonwealth. It is part of the Ministry of Light and Water, and was established in 1961 with its headquarters at Hydroburo House in Oslola. Its best-known works is the Ou Hydroburo Complex.
Many republics have little or no fresh water of their own, and so a lot of the bureau’s work is desalination. Nassau gets most of its water from plants on its southern coast, and Ventura has relied on desalination for over a century. The plants on St Croix and Tortola in Virgin are powered by fusion, and the desalination works at Mora on Colombier, which has no rivers or springs, is held by the ministry as one of the sovereign areas. The peripheral islands of Caicos rely mostly on water tanks and rain catchment, and the towns of the Grenadines usually take their water from the plants of their neighbours.
