The Defence Home Commission is an ex-service body associated with the Ministry of Defence, and is responsible for the resettlement of servicemen leaving the Commonwealth Armed Forces and for the care of those injured in service. It is partially funded by the ministry, and its headquarters are on Antigua.
Service pensions do not exist in the commons, and so the Commission’s work is practical. Its largest job is finding ex-servicemen a home and an occupation when they leave, which it does with the Bureau of Regular Service. Foreign members of the Commonwealth Levy are entitled to residence after five years of service or a permanent injury, and many of them settle in the Commonwealth with the Commission’s help.
