Consilia Cabinet

Part of the government series of articles.

Cabinet
Consultative body of the Consilia

The Cabinet is the consultative advisory body of the Consilia, with membership drawn from the cultural, intellectual and scientific life of the Commonwealth. It is appointed by the Consilia from a range of expertise and exercises no special legislative or executive function. In this sense, its role is to advise the Consilia and the civil service, and to accompany them on state occasions.

Members are appointed at the discretion of the Consilia, though it is customary to maintain a balance of representatives from the Commonwealth’s regions and to solicit nominations from the civil service. Their appointments lapse with the Consilia’s term unless reappointed. Generally, members include:

  • Writers, artists, architects, sculptors and performers
  • Scientists, engineers and technicians
  • Jurists and legal scholars
  • Retired senior civil servants and diplomats
  • University faculty and research fellows
  • Former Consilia

The Cabinet meets at the invitation of the Consilia and does not participate in developing legislation or pass resolutions. The Consilia often take its counsel before receiving foreign representatives, addressing the Mandatory Ecclesia or taking a position on a matter of national character.
