The Philindo Maritime Republics is a confederal state spread across a large archipelago in Southeast Asia, comprising dozens of island republics loosely bound by a federal charter. It is a middle income country with a substantial industrial base and one of the larger navies in the region, a practical necessity given its geography. The federal government holds limited authority over its constituent republics, and political life varies considerably from island to island.

The country has fought insurgencies of various kinds for most of its independent existence, some separatist, some ideological, some both. The military is large and experienced as a result, and exercises considerable political influence. Despite this, the Philindo Republics are a functioning democracy and maintain regular elections at both federal and republic level.
