Naval Station Kairi is the primary maritime base and fleet headquarters for the Vekllei Maritime Service Commonwealth Fleet, located on the northern coast of Kairi. The site has functioned as a naval facility since the early 17th century, when British colonial forces established fortifications to protect sugar trade routes. The installation was a significant asset during the Napoleonic Wars and later served as a base for Atlantic convoy protection during World War II.
Today, Naval Station Kairi is the largest and most advanced naval facility in the Caribbean and serves as the home port for the Commonwealth Fleet’s primary striking force, including the supercarrier CVN Veletia. The sprawling complex features several automated shipyards, extensive dry-dock facilities capable of servicing the largest Vekllei vessels and a dedicated fleet command centre. The station’s dockyards are the primary construction and maintenance site for Suffrage-class corvettes, many of which are manufactured in the automated assembly facilities on-site.
